In 2007 when Steve Jobs was presenting his first smartphone – iPhone – there were too many different opinions about the smartphone as a class. There were lots of skeptics who didn’t believe that that gadget would spread and would survive. Only few critics were sure that iPhone would open a new era of mobile development and that mobile operating systems would become as overwhelming as they are now. Today almost every second person has a smartphone and no matter if it is made by Apple or Samsung or HTC. Everyone is excited about these technologies, and not only geeks or teens, but also very thoughtful businesspeople and politicians. So, in 2007 smartphones came to stay and to change the mobile industry. Most of the manufacturers (Samsung, HTC) will soon stop making usual phones and will switch to the smartphone production only.
And again it was Apple that made (or is making?) a new revolution in the mobile world. In 2010 it introduces iPad. And the new type of gadgets appeared – tablets. And again there was the same reaction as to iPhone’s appearance. Is it necessary? What can it be used for? Does it cost the money? And even there is a 3rd generation of tablets released, lots of improvements have been made, the arguments continue.
So, will tablet survive? I believe it will. Why? Here are my reasons.
Internet Browsing and Social Networks
How many times a day do you search anything on the Internet? The simplest answer is many. Information consumption is growing. And sometimes you just don’t have time to look for the nearest PC or even to load your laptop. And it is the simplicity and the speed of work with data that makes tablets so much popular.
Speaking about social networks, they are not just one-day projects. They have become something more than just places where people can chat or share photos. They are actively used for business and entertainment. And what people want now is to have an access to their accounts everywhere they are and where they have an Internet access. And tablets provide much more convenient Internet browsing than smartphone or phablet do.
Maps and navigation
Even though it is said that our world is becoming smaller and smaller, it is so easy to get lost. Especially in unknown area. And more and more users have tested the maps and navigation services and are not ready to get rid of them.
Digital Media
You can’t deny that you use your PC or laptop not only for work, but also for music listening, movie watching, etc. Tablets allows doing the same things, but without being wired. And again these activities bring much more pleasure if they are done not from a smartphone with small screen.
Besides these three main points I would like to single out, there are lots of other technological innovations that came into our life and stayed just like gesture and voice control, cloud file sharing, mobile gaming, and others. And all these make the future of tablets stable and prosperous. Do you agree?
