The big players in the digital assistant markets are getting warmed up and serious about expansion in 2019. The most proactive among them is definitely Google Assistant. Last May, the number of subscribers using Google Assistant stood at a decent 500 million. However, Google is targeting to double that number and take it to a billion by the end of January, 2019.
To make that possible, Google has expanded the reach of Google Assistant from 14 countries to 80. With the reach expanded, more people can now have Google Assistants on their electronic devices. In addition to this, the number and variety of functions performed by this digital assistant has also shot up. You can now use Google Assistant to book cars. The conversations with the digital assistant are more evolved now.
Also on the cards is bringing together other platforms like Google Maps and language options into the mix. All of them will be integrated with Google Assistant to provide you with a more complete assistant. This is a major reason why Google hopes its assistant will be accepted by a higher number of users across the globe. People using Android phones are rising by the day anyway. Other brands like Samsung, KitchenAid and Dish are also committing to integrating devices with Google Assistant.
With more products tagged with it, Google Assistant will surely get more subscribers. But when it comes to smart home networks, Amazon’s Alexa still rules the roost. Alexa may be having just about 100 million subscribers but in the smart home segment, it is still way ahead of Google’s Assistant. So Google has some work to do in this segment to offer competition to Amazon, though Google is the market leader for smartphone digital assistants.
