Rarely has it been in the history of digital marketing, synonymous with the rise and rise of Google, that a feature launched by the search engine giant was not received with applause and adulation! This is exactly that is happening lately with a new feature launched by Google for its desktop edition of the home page. In fact, this new feature is receiving a lot of flak from netizens across the globe, especially digital marketers and online influencers.
So what is this new feature?
Google has turned on the autoplay function of videos appearing in the search results. It translates to: even if you don’t want to play the videos, they will start off nevertheless! You can stop them but they will start off, albeit without sound. The mute mode is the only saving grace, except for the fact that the video will play just once and stop. Of course, you have the option of playing it again if you are interested in watching it.
This new feature will be available for desktop versions only. As for the Android OS, users can continue to avail the older edition of the video search results.
However, if you are one of the haters of this new feature, Google offers you a way out! You can block them on your Chrome browser through a plugin. But if you are not using a Chrome browser, you don’t really have a way out.
Some online experts are of the opinion that this annoying feature could drive away people toward Google’s competitors. Do you feel the same?
