Another business that usually gets takers on foreign shores is traditional restaurants. You might do better business by serving foreign tourists. These businesses, not to mention charitable and voluntary organizations, can find a global network easier than other business domains.

The social media will help you immensely to gauge what the potential of your business is in the global context. You can follow discussion threads and forums that mention what you are selling. For example, if you are a dealer of tribal handicrafts, you can join discussions dealing with such artifacts and find out how many people are willing to buy them from local businesspersons. Another approach would be to create your own page on Facebook and promote it to international forums by tying up with online groups. Once you get the exposure, it becomes easier to judge how much revenue lies for you in the international market.
